About Timothy Bateson
Timothy Bateson is an urban fantasy and science fiction writer, with several published short stories, and a novel series in the works. Born in England during the early seventies, Bateson grew up as the son of a teacher and a library assistant, so he had no chance of remaining uneducated. He quickly developed a fascination for computers, reading, falconry and mythology.
By the age of eight, Bateson had a reading age equivalent to someone in their early teens, and was actively devouring the works of J.R.R. Tolkein, T.H. White, Ursula K LeGuin, Arthur C. Clarke, George Orwell, Joseph Heller, Edgar Allan Poe, and Jules Verne. Through these writers, he discovered a love of fantasy, science fiction and Arthurian mythology. |
The College Years
It was after college that he really started to engage in his passion for crafting stories, when he once again took up the role of Game Master for several role-playing game groups. But it wasn’t until the early 2000s that he started to try converting those gaming sessions into written stories, with limited success. It wasn’t until he met the woman who would become his wife, that he found his real inspiration.
Love, Relocation & A Fellow Writer
Bateson’s wife, Sandi, entered his life in December 2002, through an online conversation with a mutual friend. At that time, Bateson was in London, Sandi was in Alaska, and the mutual friend was in South Wales. After a couple of years of staying in touch, Bateson decided to take a vacation to meet Sandi, and six months later he moved to Alaska and the two of them married in 2005.
It was Sandi who helped rekindle Bateson’s love of writing his stories down and introduced him to her own writing work. Bateson fell in love with several of the concepts in Sandi’s work, and took some of those ideas and expanded on them. The result was “Under A Hunter’s Moon”, which was submitted to a Halloween anthology, and first saw print in 2014. Within six months, Bateson had three stories featured in anthologies, including his first science-fiction story.
Bateson and his wife have become an inseparable writing team, co-creating an alternative Seattle, which they have populated with many supernatural characters, and organizations. Between them they have refined their initial ideas into a series of short stories, which tell background tales for their planned novel series. However, it wasn’t until 2017 that Bateson first managed to explore the city for himself, rather than running around the streets on Google Maps.

Author Support & Retail
Since first being published, Bateson has become an active member of several writing groups on social media. He has also run an active blog, which often features fellow writers and their works.
When not writing, or taking part in online activities, Bateson can be found working as a supervisor at the local superstore. When asked how he can enjoy such a job, he simply replies “It’s easy. Where else can I go to hang out with friends, chat with interesting people, and get paid to take people’s money off them?”
